CROMOX 331 CL CAST IRON ELECTRODE DESCRIPTION: Manual metal arc flux cored electrode designed for welding all types of cast iron and jointing cast iron and mild steel. Due to its unique core, it is extremely essential for every operator. CHARACTERISTICS
APLICATIONS (TYPICAL) Motor frames, gear teeth, water jackets, chassis. *Ideal for joining high tensile strength cast iron, such as spheroidal graphite, with similar properties. PROCEDURE We recommend to follow this procedure in all possible cases. Remove slag from the surfaces to joint. If the pieces are thicker than 3.2 mm, bevel the joint to make a ‘V’ angle of 75-90 degrees. Use the lowest amperage possible. (Previously, test the correct amperage on a useless piece.) Run a short arc and use a short reinforcement bead or make narrow weaving passes. It is advisable to remove all internal stress by peening. When making machinable joints, warm up to 200-250ºC depending on the size of the component. After welding, let the joint cool slowly. It is advisable to use thermal blankets or hot sand to retard cooling. Note: When making machinable joints, it is very important to follow the instructions. We recommend to use 331 CL when the machinable capability is essential. Suggestions for fixing cracks Apart from the given advices, when fixing cracks it is recommended to make a 6 mm perforation on the edge of the crack to avoid its emigration during welding. Mechanical proferties of the parent metal
Working characteristics The 331 CL runs with AC and DC. However,
extraordinary results are obtained by using AC electrode negative. Recommended amperages Diameter 2,5 3,2 4,0 Minimum amperes 50 80 110 Maximum amperes 100 130 190 |
